Recruiter summary
SUP-04 presents Active Directory access-administration and support work at the MCN: lookup and diagnosis of user accounts, analysis of Active Directory objects, resolution of access issues and user support. It makes the method explicit: qualify the symptom, check account/state, groups and permissions, examine GPO, then diagnose DNS or authentication when relevant.
Context, objectives and documented responsibilities
An access denial is not necessarily a password issue. It can depend on account state, identity used, group membership, resource permission, Group Policy, DNS resolution or authentication. Reliable support separates these hypotheses and records the checks performed.
| Area | Documented work / objective |
|---|---|
| User accounts | Search and diagnose user accounts without exposing personal data |
| Active Directory objects | Diagnose users, groups or computers as required by support |
| Access | Resolve access issues and support users |
| Tools | Use RSAT and SuperConsole AD in authorized scope |
| GPO and endpoints | Understand Windows 10/11 configuration context and policy application |
Objectives are to link identity to security groups and groups to expected authorization, distinguish resource permission from GPO configuration, check DNS/authentication only when symptoms warrant it, then validate outcome with the user.
Architecture A — Conceptual Active Directory
Authentication, accounts and groups
Active Directory Domain Services centralizes the identity of users, computers and groups in a domain. During authentication, identity, account state, domain resolution and authentication mechanisms contribute to the outcome. Once authenticated, security groups contribute to the access token used to evaluate resource permissions.
Diagnosis does not mean changing an account by default. It first confirms the account, its state, the sign-in context and expected groups. Lifecycle or privilege actions remain subject to authorized process, approval and delegation; this page claims no specific IAM change.
Architecture B — Authorization management
- Grant only the level of access required by the approved business need.
- Prefer security-group assignment to individual resource permissions where the authorization model supports it.
- Separate object lookup/diagnosis from the decision to grant rights.
- Retain request and approval evidence under organizational procedure.
- Verify the effective permission without exposing resource content.
Architecture C — GPO application
A GPO is linked to a domain, site or organizational unit depending on the administration model. Its application depends on object location, inheritance, security filtering and computer/user context. A missing policy alone does not prove a GPO defect: diagnosis also checks endpoint, identity, connectivity and available policy results.
Architecture D — Access-incident diagnostic workflow
Access-diagnostic method
- Identify the observed issue, resource, endpoint and timing.
- Identify the account and resource to avoid investigating a namesake, old account or wrong target.
- Check account state and relevant information within authorized access.
- Check groups against approved access need.
- Check effective resource permissions separately from membership.
- Check GPO scope, filtering and policy result where endpoint/user configuration is involved.
- Diagnose DNS/authentication where evidence points to domain discovery or sign-in.
- Resolve within authorized scope under required approval.
- Validate expected access with the user and document checks, cause and outcome.
RSAT, SuperConsole AD and administration tools
| Tool / capability | Support role |
|---|---|
| RSAT Active Directory | Locate users, groups and computers; read authorized attributes; inspect relationships needed for diagnosis |
| SuperConsole AD | Perform supported searches and checks in authorized support scope |
| Group Policy management | Inspect links, scope, filtering and policy results without assuming production change |
| Windows 10/11 tools | Gather endpoint/session symptoms and relevant policy/domain context |
| DNS and authentication | Verify resolution and prerequisites when symptoms point to discovery or domain sign-in |
Quick technical reference
| Item | Diagnostic question | Expected evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Is this the right identity and is its state compatible with sign-in? | Search result and visible state under authorized rights |
| Group | Does the user hold the group carrying approved access? | Verified membership and associated request where applicable |
| Permission | Does that group receive the expected resource authorization? | Permission/ACL or permitted authorization mechanism review |
| GPO | Is the expected policy in applicable scope? | Coherent link, filtering and policy result |
| DNS/authentication | Can the endpoint locate the domain and establish authentication flow? | Resolution and session evidence consistent with diagnosis |
Demonstrated skills and limits
| Area | Demonstration |
|---|---|
| Active Directory Domain Services | Account and directory-object lookup and diagnosis |
| IAM / access | Interpretation of groups, permissions and access-control process |
| GPO | Scope, inheritance, filtering and policy-result understanding |
| Windows 10/11 | Endpoint/user context analysis for access incidents |
| RSAT and SuperConsole AD | Administration-tool use for lookup and diagnosis in delegated scope |
| N2/N3 support | Qualification, user validation and resolution documentation |
